There was a mass turn out from TYS to mark the start of the new decade at the City of Leeds New Year gala as 54 TYS swimmers raced in 281 individual races. For the record, Harry L was the first swimmer to race in the very stylish new TYS hat!
This was no gentle start to the year as it was the last chance to gain qualifying times for the upcoming Yorkshire Championships. There were plenty of new qualifying times achieved, with a special mention due to Luke and Madeline, who gained their first such times, and to Josh, who returned to the ranks of qualifiers after an absence of a couple of years.
There was a large medal haul over the 4 sessions, including three golds each for Ethan, Meredith and Abby P, and two golds each for Steve, Tilly, Sophie and Jacob. The gold medal tally was completed with one each for Jimmy, Giorgia and Tabby.
There were also plenty of silvers (Ethan * 3, Indi *3, Steve * 2, Jacob * 2, Sophia * 2, Jimmy * 2, Chloe * 2, Libby, Josh, Giorgia, Harry N and Freya) and bronzes (Jacob * 3, Sophia *2, Ethan, Sophie, Emily, Holly, Chloe, Tom G, Maggie, Giorgia, Maxwell, Charlotte H, Jess, Indi and Imogen).
There was a clean sweep of medals for the 16+ girls in the 50 fly (Meredith, Chloe and Imogen) with Sophia and Giorgia claiming two impressive “doubles” too, finishing 2nd and 3rd in both the 12 yo 100 free and 100 back.
The PB tally was perhaps adversely affected by the Christmas break in training (and recent chocolate consumption volumes!) but the swimmers still managed 125 PBs in total for a PB rate of 44%.
There was also some prolific action in the club records, with 27 new marks being set across the age range. See http://www.tadcasterswimsquad.org/?page_id=2517 for more details.
We always say thanks to the coaches (Jane and Vicky) and the Team Managers (Rob, Rachel, Nick, Jo, Sue and Anne along with debutants Phil and Tom) and they certainly earnt these thanks with the activity levels this weekend.
Thanks also to David, Deborah and Sarah for boosting the numbers of officials on duty over the weekend – carrying out vital roles, without which the competition could not go ahead.
