Lower Age Group Yorkshire Winter Competition
28th and 29th September 2019 John Charles Centre for Sport, Leeds.
15 swimmers (aged between 9 and 12) assembled over the weekend to compete in 56 races at the short course lower age group Yorkshire Winter Competition. It was chaos at the venue due to the number of swimmers from across the county all cramming themselves, their coaches, team managers and supporters into John Charles Aquatics Centre – not to mention the plethora of kit bags, most of which are as big as the swimmers themselves!
Despite the less than ideal poolside conditions our swimmers remained focused and yet again came up trumps, producing 44 PBs, winning three medals and gaining 4 new regional qualifications – fabulous swimming, well done to them all.
Bronze medals were won by Jacob (100 back), Jimmy (50 breast) and Tilly (100 breast) – an extra special well done is deserved for Tilly as this was also her first outing to a county competition.
New NER qualifications were achieved by Jess and Eloise (100 breast), Sophia (50 back) and Jacob (400IM). Special mention to Jess as this is her first regional qualification, well done!
Fabulous swimming and great team spirit were in abundance all weekend. Thanks to coach Jane and team managers Anne and Rachel for giving their time, encouragement and support to the swimmers, helping them to achieve such brilliant results. Let’s hope the senior age swimmers can replicate this success at their equivalent competition at Ponds Forge on 19th and 20th October – fingers crossed!
