Club Membership and Ethos

2016 was a tremendously successful year for Tadcaster Swim Squad. As a New Year starts, your membership of the squad is due for renewal on the 1st January 2017. With this in mind we would like everyone to consider the ethos of our Club, with the committee, coaches and Pool all trying to improve the squad for all swimmers. The ongoing success of the Club is built around the commitment of everyone involved – our coaches, the parents and the swimmers, with an expectation that swimmers should attend as many of the weekly training sessions as possible. They should show a positive attitude during training in order to realise their full potential as a swimmer.

The squad has changed massively over recent years, with some of the older swimmers joining a single squad of 45 swimmers who only trained 3 times a week. Now we have two distinct squads, with over 100 swimmers who swim up to 6 times a week at Tadcaster, along with opportunities for additional swimming and land-training sessions elsewhere. The profile of Swimming is at its highest ever due to the success of our National Swimmers in the last two Olympics and Tadcaster Swim Squad is no exception, with a long waiting list of young swimmers wanting to join squad or move up to the next level,  so that they too can develop their potential and achieve their dreams.

As Squad has grown and improved, swimmers have become ever more committed to training and competing regularly. Before signing up for another year, we would ask swimmers and parents to consider if they feel that they will still be able to commit to attend training sessions and competitions on a regular basis, or whether a swimmer on the waiting list could make better use of their place in Squad. Obviously we appreciate swimmers may have to change their priorities in the short term for exams and other life events before returning full-time.

The coaches have a full diary of competitive Gala’s planned for 2017 to meet the needs of all our swimmers, and there is an expectation that all swimmers represent the Club whenever possible. All members, both swimmers and parents, must adhere to the code of conduct which they have to sign each year. Swimmers must not attend galas off plan, as there is now a child protection issue since swimmers will not be accompanied by a coach or have any support from the club.

On behalf everyone at Swim Squad, we wish you a very Happy New Year and if the Swim Squad is for you, we look forward to welcoming you back when you complete your membership forms.
