Tadcaster Swim Squad had it’s highest ever number of swimmers at the long course Yorkshire Championships this January and February with 18 swimmers qualifying for 45 events over distances of 50m, 100m and 200m, swimming in a total of 53 races – 8 of them finals – over the 3 weekends of the competition.
At the sprints event held at Pond’s Forge, Sheffield, on 31st January, Emily Ball (16), Ethan Baylin (10), Tabitha Browning (9), Eleanor Cahill (10), Tom Carswell (14), Aerin Catt (12), Alex Chappell (13), Chloe Collins (15), Oli Hackwell (16), Alex Heard (14), Marija Hiscott (12), Callum McHenery (16), Rachael McHenery (14), Joshua Moss (9), Harry Souter (13), Ellie Walker (13), Libby Walker (9) and Alex Williams (11) swam in 38, 50m races and some brilliant swims by all the swimmers saw 26 long course personal bests and 17 squad records.
Tom won a bronze medal in the 14 year old boys 50m Freestyle and achieved top ten finishes in the 50m Backstroke and the 50m Fly. Alex W finished in the top 10 in the 11 year old boys 50m Backstroke and 50m Freestyle and Harry achieved a top ten finish in the 13 year old boys 50m Backstroke.
Special mention must also be made to Tabitha, Eleanor, Ethan Joshua, and Aerin who were swimming for the first time long course and achieved fantastic personal bests.
The distance events held at John Charles, Leeds on 14th/15th and 21st/22nd February again saw some fantastic swims in 14 races and 6 more long course pbs, and 11 more squad records. Harry achieved a top ten finish in 13 year old boys 200m Backstroke and Tom a top ten finish in the 14 year old boys 100m Freestyle.
Fantastic results for all the swimmers – 32 personal bests and 28 squad records! The swimmers were a credit to TSS in their behaviour and enthusiasm and the support they gave to each other throughout the whole competition was wonderful to see. Thank you to the Coaches and club captains and vice captains for all the help and support on poolside.
